The Joker’s short screen-time has left many disappointed.
[dropcap size=small]D[/dropcap]C’s Suicide Squad has only just hit the big screens, but the movie has already received a lot of mixed reviews.
One thing a lot of critics have picked up on is the fact that The Joker isn’t featured as much as the trailers seem to indicate, and his screen time is said to be pretty sparse throughout the film.
Heroic Hollywood (via Screenrant) recently reported about an interview Leto gave with the Spanish language news site, Télé Star. Leto revealed that much of the Joker’s scenes had been cut from the final product, which could explain why his screen time is shorter than expected:
“There are a lot of scenes that didn’t make it to the final film, hopefully they will see the light of day. Who knows.”
Much of the marketing for the film put Joker at its forefront as a veritable poster boy for the movie, so it’s a shame he isn’t actually featured as much as they seemed to imply. With so much hype around a new Joker in the DC Cinematic Universe, the decision to make his appearance as short as it is probably won’t win the film any favours with any big Joker fans out there.
A lot of reports suggest the film is messy and feels quite rushed overall, which isn’t so surprising given it’s history of post-production do-overs and re-shoots prior to it’s official release earlier this year. Perhaps in future we’ll see an extended cut of the film which will include these deleted scenes, much like the extended edition of Batman v Superman.
Whilst Suicide Squad sounds as though it isn’t as polished and fine-tuned as it could be, it’s still sure to rake in the pennies at the box office, despite it’s rather lacklustre ratings so far.
Suicide Squad is in theatres everywhere now.
