This morning, Sir Ian McKellen Tweeted out the first photo from his upcoming film Mr. Holmes.
At 75-years of age, the veteran actor best known for his roles as X-Men’s Magneto and LoTR’S Gandalf, Sir Ian McKellen will now step into the shoes of the world’s greatest detective (next to Batman, of course). McKellen tweeted earlier today the first photo featuring Mr. Holmes, showing that news first comes in all forms.
Based on a book by Mitch Cullin, the story follows a retired Holmes enjoying the quiet life with his housekeeper and her son, who happens to be an amateur detective. But old memories seldom fade, and old habits die hard. In Mr Holmes, the famous detective must once again solve a mystery, from 50 years earlier, and all without his partner Dr. Watson. Holmes’ style may be as sharp as ever in this first look, but his mind has begun to slip with age, making this the challenge of a lifetime.
With Sherlock on BBC starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Elementary on CBS with Jonny Lee Miller, and Robert Downey Jr’s film trilogy, we can honestly say having too much of of a good thing isn’t a bad thing here, especially considering how big the fan base is for Sir Ian.
Set for a 2015 release, Mr. Holmes is directed by Bill Condon, and is already in pre-production.
