Witness the Great Green Gladiator!
Perhaps the one storyline from Marvel Comics that fans most want to see adapted into an MCU film is Planet Hulk.
While it doesn’t seem as though we’ll be getting a solo Hulk film anytime soon, but it looks like fans may see parts of this adored storyline in the God of Thunder’s next film.
JoBlo reports that Thor: Ragnarok, co starring Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, will feature story elements taken from Planet Hulk.
For those unfamiliar, Planet Hulk saw the Illuminati (a secret group of genius Marvel heroes, including Professor X and Iron Man) deeming Banner too dangerous for Earth, and banishing him into outer space. Hulk ends up on an alien planet, where he is enslaved and forced to fight in gladiator combat.Â
If you can’t get your hands on the comics, check out the 2010 animated film based on the story. It’s pretty solid.Â
Anyway, the story elements from Planet Hulk that will apparently be adapted into Thor: Ragnorok are the gladiator fights. If the report is to be believed, Hulk will sport a one-shoulder armor piece as he faces extraterrestrial challengers in a tournament hosted by the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum).Â
Well, if this does indeed happen, it’s safe to say Thor will be the lease memorable aspect of his own movie.Â
Besides Chris Hemsworth, Goldblum and Ruffalo, the film stars Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Anthony Hopkins, Cate Blanchett, Tessa Thompson, and Karl Urban. Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) is set to direct.
Thor: Ragnarok (aka Planet Hulk) hits theaters on November 3, 2017.Â
