Jennifer Lawerence could be Sandra Bullock’s new right-hand woman.
[dropcap size=small]L[/dropcap]ast year we covered that an all-female Ocean’s Eleven reboot was reportedly in the works with Sandra Bullock in the leading role. A screen-play was said to have already been written, with Hunger Games director Gary Ross penning the project, alongside spy-thriller Queen & Country script writer, Olivia Milch.
Some more news has now surfaced, and according to The Tracking Board (via Gamespot), Jennifer Lawrence may be reunited with her Hunger Games director, as she’s said to be at the top of the ‘producers short list’ for a starring role alongside Bullock.
The project was brought about thanks the late Ocean’s producer Jerry Weintraub, who was the original mastermind behind the reboot. Previous Ocean’s star, George Clooney (who played ex-con man Danny Ocean in the 2001 film), and previous director, Steven Soderbergh, are both producing the project, which they helped spearhead with Weintraub.
The reboot is said to follow on from the previous trilogy, and will focus on Danny Ocean’s sister (played by Bullock), as she apparently tries ‘to steal a necklace from the Met Ball in a bid to frame a crooked gallery owner.’ Lawrence is reportedly set to play Bullock’s right-hand woman and form one of the members of an all-female band of thieves.
The previous trilogy of Ocean’s movies – which were a re-make of the fabulous original ‘Rat Pack’ version (starring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr and Peter Lawford) from 1960 – enjoyed a lot of success back in the early 00’s.
Having an all-female cast is an interesting direction to go in, and with two great actresses now reportedly on board, the project has a lot of potential. Hopefully folks will be more open-minded, and give it more of chance than the female-led Ghostbusters reboot (which suffered a huge backlash upon its announcement) ever got.
The as yet Untitled Ocean’s Eleven Project is currently in development, with no target release date announced so far.
