This movie is about to surpass $1 billion! What a start for Marvel’s Phase 3!
[dropcap size=small]P[/dropcap]rior to the weekend, Captain America: Civil War surpassed $800 million worldwide. But with the latest weekend numbers, the movie has raised $940 million overall, which is an insane number, even for a movie that had as much hype as it did. The other two superhero movies that already came out this year, Deadpool and Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, were blown away when comparing their total numbers to what Civil War has so far. Civil War is officially the highest grossing movie this year!
Deadpool finished with $762.4 million, while BvS totaled $868.8 million. Not bad numbers, but Civil War was the competition and they lost this one straight up. To be fair, not a lot of people know about Deadpool and it was rated R, so he gets a pass. BvS had higher expectations and failed to meet them.
This past weekend, Civil War made another $72.5 million domestically and $84.2 million across the sea for a total of $156.7 million. Civil War now totals $645 million internationally, which puts it third all-time behind Avengers: Age of Ultron and Iron Man 3. Civil War is currently in sixth worldwide.
Although we still have two big movies coming out later this year in the superhero world, Suicide Squad and Doctor Strange will not compete with Civil War. They look like they will be successful, but Civil War is just on another level. But it just goes to show that Civil War is just the beginning and superhero movies (in the Marvel Universe.)
Suicide Squad will be released on August 5th, while Doctor Strange will be released on November 4th!
