This just in: misleading titles are misleading.
[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]n a recent interview with news site Uproxx, directing brother duo, Joe and Anthony Russo, revealed a rather interesting piece of information about their next cinematic venture. The pair are are set to direct the upcoming two-part Marvel Infinity War release – Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 and Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2 – but, as we’ve now learnt, the films have not yet been given their official titles.
Joe Russo explained that the films official titles for the two movies are still in the works, with the current ones being more like stand-ins:
The intention is we will change it, we just haven’t come up with the titles yet. But, yes, we will change it. And, yes, that is a scoop: we will retitle them.
Interviewer Mike Ryan asked the brothers how they decided where to spilt the movies to form the two parts, but they were quick to explain that this was a misconception, since the films are in fact completely separate from one another. Joe stated the Infinity War films are going to be comprised of ‘two very different movies,’ rather than forming two halves of one film.
The Russo brothers were very keen to emphasise that cinema-goers will be getting two separate, distinctly different films, and not be like, let’s say, The Hunger Games: Mocking Jay Part 1 and 2. Anthony chimed in by admitting the current titles were very ‘misleading,’ and re-iterated that we’ll be getting two separate stories for each Infinity War film.
In terms of the plot, we don’t have much to go on other than speculation for the time being, but word is Thor and Star Lord will be making an appearance, and the Guardians of the Galaxy are said to be teaming up with the Avengers.
Everyone having the assumption that the films would be a conventional two-parter is perfectly understandable, since, you know, having part 1 and 2 in the title pretty blatantly set it up to seem that way. Hopefully the new titles will clear up any confusion about the nature of the two Infinity War movies, and we’re looking forward to finding out just what they will be.
The currently named Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 is set to hit theatres 4 May, 2018, with Part 2 set for 3 May, 2019.
