‘Friday the 13th: The Game’ gets a New Movie-Themed Map and Execution

You might want to avoid the doors at Higgins Haven.

[dropcap size=small]E[/dropcap]ver since we heard that the folks at Illfonic were bringing out a Friday the 13th game via Kickstarter, we’ve had high hopes for the multiplayer horror title. Made using Unreal Engine 4, the project has been smashing it’s Kickstarter goals time and again, and with more money, comes more content for us players.

As such, there have been some more developments made to the game-play experience, and the folks behind the game unveiled some tasty morsels for us to sink our teeth into during a panel at PAX East. The new additions they revealed were namely a brand new map based on the ‘Higgins Haven’ building, a location right out of Friday the 13th: Part III and Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984), as well as an execution known as the ‘Door Kill.’

As the name suggests, ‘Door Kill’ sees Jason Voorhees mercilessly kill the innocent campers with a door. Ouch. The re-recreation of the ‘Higgins Haven’ locale is gorgeously realised using the Unreal 4 Engine, and we’re stoked to be able to reek havoc – or try to avoid being killed – in a signature place from the original movies.

Another bit of footage they debuted showed off the stealth aspect of the game-play, where as the camper (or teen counselor as they call it) you can try to hide within the environment to avoid that hockey-mask-wearing-maniac. But as you can see in the below video, it’s not always the best idea.

If you’re not familiar with the game, it’s essentially a multiplayer survival horror composed of two sides, with a 1 v. a possible 7 set up. You either play as the teen counselors who have unwittingly walked into a nightmarish scenario you have to try and survive, or you can play as main man Jason Voorhees himself, and go on a murderous rampage. Either side poses different challenges and, of course, goals.

Several other stretch goals have been achieved so far, and you can get a full run-down of the other features (such as more executions, vehicles, locales and character designs) they have already announced here

Friday the 13th: The Game is looking better and better with each update, and we can’t wait to give this great re-imagining of the classic slash fest in the game world a whirl.

Friday the 13th: The Game is due to be released October, 2016.
