The God of Thunder and Star-Lord are headed to Infinity…and beyond!

[toggler title=”TL;DR”]The Russo brothers reveal they are huge fans of Guardians of the Galaxy, and are excited about the prospect of bringing Star Lord into Avengers: Infinity War Part 1. The pair also explain that they’re looking forward to Thor’s involvement, after being profoundly effected by the events of Thor: Ragnarok. [/toggler]

[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]ith Captain America: Civil War soon to be hitting theatres this May, thoughts are already turning to what else is in store for us in the ever expanding MCU. We’ve got Thor’s next adventure Thor: Ragnarok, and Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2 due next year, along with Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 rounding up the franchise in 2018.

Joe and Anthony Russo are set to direct the first part of Infinity War, and recently spoke to Comicbook.com about the upcoming project. The Russo brothers gave us an idea of how the film will follow on from the franchise, as well as revealing some major Marvel character’s we can expect to see:

The movies are intended to be a culmination of everything that’s happened before in the MCU so you don’t want to get into spoilers but I’m a big fan of what James Gunn has done. [Joe Russo and I] are both big fans of what James Gunn has done. Star-Lord is a fantastic character and Chris Pratt is an awesome performer so you’d be very excited.

James Gunn directed the hugely entertaining Guardians of Galaxy, and since rumours have been growing with the suggestion that Infinity War will follow the Avengers as they team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy, it all seems to be coming together. It’s certainly a pretty safe bet to say that we’ll be seeing Chris Pratt’s Star Lord make an appearance.

Joe Russo also expressed his excitement at the prospect of bringing Thor into the Infinity War fold, particularly after the events of the upcoming Ragnarok

I’m excited to work with Thor…They’re doing some really interesting stuff with Ragnarok and where he’s gonna be at the beginning of Infinity War is gonna be a very interesting place and I think very profound. I think he’s gonna have a real emotional motivation after that.”

Profound and emotional? That’s quite the tease. It’s pretty exciting to think of what will happen in Thor’s next venture.

*Some potential spoilers ahead*

Now this is just speculation, but based on the fact that we know that Ragnarok is said to mean ‘Fate of the Gods’ in Norse mythology, the myth could be what has a profound effect on everyone’s favourite God of Thunder. The myth reveals the eventual destruction of the world, as well as the deaths of the old gods. Thor is said to replace the old gods and begin the new cycle of life. Imagine having that knowledge? That’s pretty heavy stuff, and it would definitely fall into the realms of having a profound effect on Thor.

Ragnarok is also a Marvel supervillain that comes in the shape of  Thor’s clone, and that would have a profound effect on anybody. I mean, imagine encountering an evil version of yourself? You would be effected, wouldn’t you?

So Thor and Star-Lord will be in Infinity War, and will most likely be teaming up with the rest of the Marvel gang. Aren’t you just practically salivating over the thought of the team dynamics of a huge bunch of Marvel heroes banding together, and fighting for the same cause? We certainly are.

Avengers: Infinity War  – Part 1 is set to be released 4 May, 2018, with Part 2 due out 3 May, 2019.
