Production for the eagerly anticipated Justice League Part One begins next month, so casting for supporting roles has finally begun.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that one of these roles is the classic Batman character Jim Gordon, who will be portrayed by J.K. Simmons.

Simmons has had a number of memorable roles throughout the years, including Whiplash, which garnered him an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, but perhaps his most beloved character is the irate editor-in-chief of the Daily Bugle,  J. Jonah Jameson, from Sam Rami’s Spider-Man trilogy.

James Gordon has been a long-standing character of DC comics, often as the Police Commissioner of Gotham City, who trusts and communicates with Batman. He has most notably been portrayed by Ben McKenzie in Gotham, and Gary Oldman in Chris Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy.

Justice League Part One will be directed by Zack Synder, and stars Ben Affleck (Batman), Henry Cavill (Superman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Ezra Miller (The Flash), and Ray Fisher (Cyborg).

We love J.K. Simmons, and we’re sure he’ll do a great job as Gordon, but we fear this casting means it’s doubtful he’ll reprise his role as J.J.J for the upcoming Spider-Man reboot film. Please Sony and Marvel, make it happen!

Justice League Part One hits theaters on November 17, 2017.
