The Merc with a Mouth broke all kinds of records on his opening weekend.
[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]he weekend was won by the Ryan Reynolds led Deadpool. The movie grossed $135.05M, beating out 8 of the box office’s top 10 movie gross totals. Yes you read that right. Deadpool earned more in its first weekend than other movies have in their entire multi-week runs. Deadpool broke the records best February opening weekend and best opening weekend for a rated R film. The film was also the highest opening for Ryan Reynolds.
Comedies How to Be Single and Zoolander 2 also opened this weekend and did pretty okay for going up against Deadpool, both grossing over $15 million.
Arriving in theaters this week, specifically February 19th, are Race, a biography about Jesse Owens and his time in the 1936 Olympics, Risen, a story of the Biblical resurrection of Jesus from the viewpoint of a Roman soldier, and The Witch, a horror film based around a 1630s New England family. Race and The Witch both have a decent amount of buzz surrounding them so we will have to wait and see how the movies fair this weekend against Deadpool.
