Time-travel really did put Interstellar at the top this time!
[dropcap size=small]E[/dropcap]verybody always has that feeling about a movie they don’t want to see in theaters, but will watch it online when the best stream link hits the web. Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar gets this year’s title for most pirated film.
According to Variety, Interstellar had a total of 46,762,310 downloads world-wide. This award could be blamed on aliens and time-travel or some other paradox, but the most-pirated film in recent years has gone to a movie that was released the previous year. Popular movies from the previous year tend to be candidates for this title due to time spent circulating around pirates (no, not you Jack Sparrow.) Interstellar stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chestain. Furious 7 and Avengers: Age of Ultron rounded out the top 3 pirated movies.
Last year’s pirating champion, The Wolf of Wall Street, only netted 30 million downloads, which is less than all of the movies on the list below. Using approximations on downloads, here’s a list of the top ten most pirated films in 2015.
1) Interstellar, 46.8 million
2) Furious 7, 44.8 million
3) Avengers: Age of Ultron, 41.6 million
4) Jurassic World, 36.9 million
5) Mad Max: Fury Road, 36.4 million
6) American Sniper, 34 million
7) Fifty Shades of Grey, 32.1 million
8) The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies, 31.6 million
9) Terminator: Genisys, 31 million
10) The Secret Service, 30.9 million
