Each week, we plan on giving spotlight to one of our fellow geeks, giving them a chance to show off their most prized collections and their, well… geekiness!
[dropcap size=small]M[/dropcap]eet our latest Geek of the Week, David Gomez! David is 23 years old and he is currently working on getting his Masters degree in IT. David is a major fan of the manga series Berserk, which he has been following for the past six years, and he is really passionate about action role-playing-games like Dark Souls.
Like a lot of gamers, David started playing video games early at the age of 5 when he got his first video game console, the classic N64. Since then David has acquired nearly every gaming console since and he tries to keep up with all of the games that impress him when they are being released. As for best console, David says that Playstation 3 is the winner for him. With so many great games like Uncharted, God of War and Dark Souls it blew him away and it was the first time video game console who’s graphics actually impressed him.
“I like single player adventures and exploring better. It’s usually given a lot more attention to detail and feels like you are given a full experience rather than one that has to be constantly balanced and tweaked.”
David’s first complete Manga experience was Full Metal Alchemist when a friend of his let him borrow it in eighth grade, but he didn’t start collecting Manga until college. It was harder to collect back in middle school and there was “a bit of a stigma to it socially growing up”. He says that Berserk has the best art out of any Manga he has ever seen and the closest Manga to it would be Vagabond. For David, the storytelling in Berserk is unlike anything else he has ever seen.
On the other hand however, David says he started watching animes like Dragonball when it was on Toonami in fifth grade. When asked what his favorite animes are David said, ” I love Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun and Code Geass etc, but my favorite is One Piece hands down. I still follow it currently and my main reason is that it has it all. The show continually surprises me and impresses me in a way Anime only could. Also Zoro is a badass, he is my dude. Don’t get me wrong, Luffy is a great captain but Zoro has so many great moments as the vice captain that he sometimes steals the show in my opinion but he could never be a captain so it works out.”
Congratulations to David Gomez on being selected for our Geek of the Week! If you think you have what it takes to be next week’s Geek of the Week send an e-mail to horton@geekoutpost.com and tell us why you should be featured on the site.
