[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap]remake of Oceans Eleven has apparently been in the works according to the Indwire playlist, and is apparently set to feature an all-female cast as the accomplices who devise a plan to rob Las Vegas.
This comes after a wave of female-centric films have come about, and are due to hit the big screen – including the much talked about remake of the Ghostbusters, which features four female leads.
Rumours suggest Sandra Bullock will be taking on the lead role, with Gary Ross (screenplay writer and director of The Hunger Games) taking charge of the directors seat.
According to reports, the project began last year, with George Clooney (who starred in the previous version), late producer Jerry Weintraub, and the previous director Steven Soderbergh, all bumping heads to bring the project into fruition.
Clooney is bound to make a cameo appearance if the film goes ahead, which seems to be quite likely, with an apparent draft of the screenplay already floating around.
Apart from Bullock, we don’t know who else might be taking on the other female roles, but it could make for interesting version. Bullock is a fantastic actress, so it’s already got potential.
The Oceans films are only around a decade old now, and saw big names like George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Julia Roberts starring in the re-make of the original film from the 1960’s – which featured the famous Rat Pack foursome, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr and Peter Lawford.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens in the coming months.
The remake is said to be Gary Ross’ next project.
