Although he won’t be in Civil War, Dr. Banner is set to make his cosmic debut in 2017.
The Hulk is no doubt the breakout star of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But unfortunately, besides one solo film and the two Avengers flicks, his appearances have been pretty scarce.
Luckily, it now appears that Hulk will smash his way into the third Thor film, Ragnarok.
JoBlo reports that Bruce Banner himself, Mark Ruffalo, has signed on to appear in the upcoming film, and will team up with Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, as they face the Norse Apocalypse together.
As evident from the Avengers film, the first one especially, these characters have great chemistry together, and this seems like a smart decision.
However, what are the greater implications of this news? Does this report confirm Hulk was launched into space at the end of Age of Ultron? Will this Ragnarok lay the foundation for a Planet Hulk film? Will this movie be Planet Hulk in disguise? Honestly, we hope so.
Anyway, Hulk joins a few other confirmed (via JoBlo) MCU veterans appearing in the film; including Jaimie Alexander’s Sif, and Tom Hiddleston’s Loki (who was recently unsure if he’d appear).
Ragnarok will begin filming June 2016. A director has yet to be confirmed for the project, but What We Do in the Shadows helmer Taika Waititi is currently in negotiations to work on it.
Thor: Ragnarok will Hulk smash into theaters on November 3, 2017.
