More cast members are unveiled for Marvel’s latest Netflix series.
[dropcap size=small]N[/dropcap]ews surfaced this week which revealed more cast members of the upcoming Marvel Netflix exclusive series Luke Cage. It was announced that Theo Rossi – who is best known for his role as Juan Carlos ‘Juice’ Ortiz in Sons of Anarchy – will be taking the role of Alvarez (better known as Shades). Alongside Rossi, up-and-coming actress Simone Missick is set to play Misty Knight. Both will be regular characters alongside Mike Colter who is playing the title role of Luke Cage.
The series will follow the pursuits and exploits of wrongly imprisoned Cage, who, after being involved in a science experiment that goes awry, gains superhuman strength and an ultra resilient physique. Upon breaking free from prison, Cage decides to become a superhero for hire and make a profit from his new-found abilities.
Rossi’s character Shades is a successful street criminal who was in prison with Cage. Once freed, he becomes a super-villain of sorts, and is bound to be quite the antagonist. In the comic books he’s a crack shot with a killer instinct, and for a period in the 80’s he was also outfitted with visor-like shades that could send out an optic blast powerful enough to send his foes hurtling through the air.
Missick’s character Misty ‘Missy’ Knight lost an arm during her service with the NYPD, and sports a bionic arm given to her by Tony Stark, which gives her superhuman strength. She fronts a private detective agency with her martial art skills and crime-fighting prowess, and is bound to clash with Rossi.
It’s quite unlikely that we’ll see the visor make an appearance on Shades in the Netflix series, and it’s more probable that we’ll see his incarnation from the comics circa 1990 – which is an easy fit for Rossi.
Both characters are interesting figures, and it’ll be fun to see how their roles will play out in the series.
Luke Cage is set for a 2016 release.
