Lionsgate will be taking us to the planet Pandora in their movie adaptation for ‘Borderlands’.

[dropcap size=small]O[/dropcap]n Friday, Lionsgate announced that it will be bringing the famed sci-fi-FPS-RPG, Borderlands, to the big screen. The original game, which released in 2009, takes place on the desolate planet Pandora, post-abandonment. Avi and Ari Arad, father and son, are set to produce the film. Their track record includes involvement on the Iron Man, Spider-Man, The Amazing Spider-Man, X-Men, Ghost Rider and Blade franchises.

“Part of our strategy in entering the game space under Peter Levin has been to source new brands with built-in audiences that will translate into great films and television shows. The ‘Borderlands’ games don’t pull any punches, and we’ll make the movie with the same in-your-face attitude that has made the series a blockbuster mega-franchise.” -Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairs

What does this mean? Judging by Rob and Patrick’s statement, we can expect a similar experience to the game. Since 2009, Borderlands has sold, worldwide, a whopping 26 million copies of the game. Information regarding the plot and casting is limited as this story is still developing.
