Kylo Ren, the broadsaber-wielding Sith/not Sith faces off against John Boyega’s Finn in this latest teaser of Episode VII!

The clip, which was posted to the Star Wars Instagram account this morning, shows a little more to the introduction of Ren and his claymore-like lightsabre.

The news about Boyega’s character ‘Finn’ wielding a lightsaber surprised and delighted many after the reveal came in the form of a D23 Con-Exclusive poster that showed the character holding what appears to be Anakin’s original blue lightsaber, the same one that Luke later gets from Obi-Wan and loses in Cloud City.

Previously, GO Staff Writer @Joe_Ritchey and I discussed the potential connection/relationship between Ren and Darth Vader; what we came up with is merely speculation at this point but we deduced that they could be related, the latter of which being Ren’s grandfather. There is a point to this, keep reading.

While it is not known who or what the roles will be for each of the characters in the new movie, however Finn wielding a lightsaber suggests that he may be force-sensitive, with the means of becoming a Jedi himself (descendant of Mace Windu prehaps?). However, the means in which Finn came to possess Anakin’s/Luke’s lightsaber may be less exciting, implying that perhaps Finn is a relative of Lando, having found the lightsaber in Cloud City in some manner with a desire to return it to Luke, the weapon’s latest owner.

Should this be the case, it is possible that Finn is not necessarily a Jedi, just as Ren is not a Sith (according to J.J. Abrams), and that Finn is simply trying to defend himself. We know at least that Ren is obsessed with the dark side and specifically Vader, so keeping that in the forefront of your minds, maybe Ren is trying to claim the relic of Anakin Skywalker for his collection when Finn retaliates by fighting back?

At this point it’s anyone’s guess, but regardless of what may or may not be what turns out to be fact of the matter, we will all find out this holiday season.
