The photo, uploaded to Instagram by director Bryan Singer, has sent X-Men fans into meltdown.

[dropcap size=small]B[/dropcap]ryan Singer almost broke Instagram last week by sharing a photo of Sir Patrick Stewart just hanging out on the set of X-Men: Apocalypse. Stewart told Larry King back in January that his Professor X and Ian McKellen’s Magneto would be making way for their younger selves in Apocalypse.

‘It is going to be looking very much at the earlier lives of all our characters, so I don’t think we’ll be making an appearance.’

Well then, explain this.

Now, Stewart and Jason Reitman (director of Juno and Up in the Air, pictured alongside Stewart above) might well be there for no reason other than Singer invited his friends to show up and offer their creative wisdom, but Singer knew what he was in for when he uploaded that photo. Everyone wants to see Patrick Stewart sit in that wheelchair one last time, and now that we have reason to believe it could happen, the actor’s non-appearance will mean that a lot of fans leave the movie disappointed. Your move, Singer.

X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27th, 2016.
