Sam Mendes claims that the idea of returning for a fourth James Bond movie makes him “physically ill”.

[toggler title=”TL;DR” ]Sam Mendes believes that Spectre will be his last James Bond. He said, “I said no to the last one and then ended up doing it, and was pilloried by all my friends. [dropcap size=small]N[/dropcap]ot many directors can boast about having directed a film that broke the billion dollar mark. However even with having bragging rights for something like that, Sam Mendes believes that Spectre will be his last James Bond film. On the other hand it is rumored that he has given thought to the idea of returning for a fourth film if Spectre makes over $1 billion like Skyfall did.

“Was I willing to go back into a room with a writer and start work on the same set of characters and the same scenarios as I’ve been working on for the last three years? The idea made me physically ill. I said no to the last one and then ended up doing it, and was pilloried by all my friends. But I do think this is probably it,” he told BBC News. “I don’t think I could go down that road again. You do have to put everything else on hold. It feels almost, even though we’ve just finished shooting it, like one big experience and it was a fantastic life-changing thing,” he also said. “It really is more a lifestyle choice than a job.”

To be fair, directing a film like Spectre probably involves a lot of time and energy. After directing two James Bond films the director probably wants to take a break and maybe look into directing something different or just going on a vacation.

Putting this possible sad news aside Sam Mendes has teased that the theme song for Spectre is finished, but it’s unknown who the artist is at this time.

“I can say that the song’s been recorded and it’s fantastic and I’m very excited about it. You won’t have to wait long,” Mendes said.

Who knows who the artist will be, but let’s hope that Sam Mendes decides to change his mind and will return for another James Bond.

Spectre hits theaters November 6th, 2015.
