[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap] he newest hit to franchise-horror movies will have it’s final movie released this October.

“It’s coming to an end. This is it, the finale,” says producer Jason Blum. “We’re saying it before the movie opens. We’re not going to grind this horror franchise into the ground. This will keep Paranormal Activity as part of this culture and this particular time in a really fantastic way.”

The final movie will answer questions that have been asked since Paranormal Activity was released in 2009, including the backstory to the families and the origin of the demon called Toby. Fans will even get to find out what Toby looks like.

“We’ve done well without showing Toby, being able to create tensions and scares based on audiences’ imagination,” says producer Oren Peli. “But people are very curious.”

Peli shot the first Paranormal Activity as the director for $15,000 on a videotape and in return, the 5 small-budget movies have combined to gross $383 million. This movie series has been a huge success, even though it didn’t need any well-known actors or hi-tech equipment to register a huge fan base.

Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension feature a new family, the Fleeges, who move into a house and find a video camera and a box of tapes in the garage. When looking through the camera lens, they are able to see paranormal activity around them, including the return of young Kristi and Katie.

The footage that is on the video camera will be played in 3-D when shown in theaters. This is the first film that will have 3-D footage of all the Paranormal Activity movies. “It’s hard to make 3-D movies with a microbudget,” says Blum, who declines to specify how much filmmakers had to work with.

Personally, I like this idea because there have been movie franchises that have been forced into production because of either fans demanding more movies or those who want to make more money using a well-known movie franchise with a plot that doesn’t fit previous films. This movie is going to answer a lot of questions that have been asked by fans of the series from previous films. It’s a big gamble that will hopefully pay off.

Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension will be released in theaters on October 23rd.
