The British actor will make his debut as the web-slinger in Captain America: Civil War.
[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]om Holland has beaten out Asa Butterfield (Hugo, Ender’s Game) and four others to win the role of Spider-Man. The 19-year-old star of The Impossible will make a cameo in 2016’s Civil War, before he swings into a leading role for the standalone Spider-Man reboot in 2017.
Holland replaces Andrew Garfield as New York’s favorite superhero moves into the MCU. There he will play a younger version of the character, who will likely go on to lead the Avengers when Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. eventually decide to move on.
You can see Holland don the red and blue suit in Captain America: Civil War on May 6th 2016. The standalone Spider-Man movie, directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car), will open on July 28th 2017.
