Microsoft will be releasing an adapter to allow gamers to use wireless Xbox One controllers for PC games.
It was a big day at E3 on Tuesday with the unveiling of a number of different updates across the board for Microsoft. While most people were focused on the variety of games revealed, Microsoft also released a new gadget for the Xbox One and PC gamers: a USB adapter for the Xbox One controller for PC gaming. This product would finally allow users to utilize a wireless Xbox One controller to play a variety of games on the PC.
The small USB adapter is said to enable users to use wireless Xbox One controllers on all PCs, laptops, tablets, or other devices that run Windows 10. Until now, users were restricted to the wired, Xbox 360 controllers if they wanted to use an Xbox controller for a PC game. Unfortunately, the wireless adapter will only be Windows 10 compatible, which means Mac users and users with outdated versions of Windows would be out of luck on this one.
Along with only being available for specific operating systems, the adapter comes at a steep price of $24.99. Microsoft has revealed that they will also be offering a deal for both the adapter and controller for $79.99. It should be noted that this adapter would not be compatible with Xbox 360 controllers. No word of international prices has been released, but Microsoft claims it will be available to all markets shortly after its fall release.
Xbox’s hardware updates included backwards compatibility for Xbox 360 games on the Xbox One, a new 1 TB hard drive for the Xbox One, and this new controller adapter. While it is a useful piece of hardware, the adapter is a bit pricey and only available to a specific operating system. The piece of hardware will be available to users this fall and is still expected to be popular amongst PC gamers.
