Frank Grillo is back as Crossbones after hinting at character during the ending of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]hen you look at the cast of the upcoming Captain America: Civil War movie, you would think they are filming an Avengers movie with all the super heroes that are involved. Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Robert Downey Jr, and Scarlett Johansson have all been confirmed with set photos from Captain America: Civil War, but now we have seen something that has really peaked our interest. Everyone wants to know about the heroes of the Marvel films, but what about the villains?
Set photos show Frank Grillo, who played Brock Rumlow in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, all dressed up in his new Crossbones armor. Rumlow tried to stand toe to toe with Cap a few times during the movie and got his ass handed to him. After a final show down with Falcone, Rumlow, who was thought to be crushed as a S.H.I.E.L.D. ship crashed into the building were the two are fighting, shows up at the end very much alive but very much burnt to a crisp.
From what we see so far it look like the MCU Crossbones is going to be suiting up a little heavier than the comic book version. A suit of body armor and a heavy-duty helmet to match what looks like some kind of robotic punching gloves will replace his traditional big guns and light dress attire. This could be a hint that we will get the more brutal, casual-murder-loving villain rather than the psychopath he has been portrayed as.
What does this mean for the plot of Captain America: Civil War? It could be that Civil War will pick up more where Winter Soldier left-off rather than an Avengers 2.5, which many suspect and with a cast that rivals any of the past two Avengers movies who could blame them. Crossbones return could hint at the plot that runs through the Civil War comic book, the plot to kill Captain America.
Captain America: Civil War directed but the Russo brothers and starring Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Elizabeth Olsen, Robert Downey Jr, Jeremy Renner, Paul Bettany, Paul Rudd, Frank Grillo, and Sebastian Stan will hit theaters May 8, 2016.
