The President of the United States is going to be a woman, at least in Independence Day 2 that is.
Sela Ward, the actress famous for her roles in the shows like Sisters and CSI: NY, will be the POTUS in Independence Day 2. She will be reunited with director Roland Emmerich, who she worked with on the movie The Day After Tomorrow. Mrs. Ward last appeared in the box office champ Gone Girl, directed by David Fincher.
Mrs. Ward will be joining quite the all-star cast. Independence Day 2 will have Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher (who will be playing the son of Will Smith’s fighter pilot ace character), Maika Monroe, Travis Tope, Joey King and Charlotte Gainsbourg. Cast members from the highly successful original film, which made $811 million worldwide, include Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox and Jeff Goldblum.
Unfortunately Will Smith will not be returning for Independence Day 2 to punch the living daylights out of more aliens. According to Roland Emmerich, “Will Smith can not come back because he’s too expensive, but he’d also be too much of a marquis name”. Still, with an all-star cast like that you can be sure that Independence Day 2 will be just as action packed and thrilling, if not more, than the first film.
Independence Day 2 is set to begin filming in New Mexico later this month.
