Superman Returns actor Brandon Routh is currently portraying Palmer on the third season of Arrow, but he has yet to suit up as the super hero. Although talks are still in the very preliminary stages, it seems likely that Routh would be willing to take on a starring role in his own series.
At Winter TV Press Tour 2015, executive producers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Andrew Kreisberg revealed that they are “in early talks” about the “very general idea” of a series based on Atom, also known as Ray Palmer. When asked for more details, Berlanti stated “we haven’t dug deeper,” and the creative team is “not allowed” to talk about it.
Kreisberg attributed the growth of super hero TV shows to the advancement of visual effects on TV as an effort to compete with their cinematic counterparts. The Flash in particular has received an incredible amount of positive feedback thanks in part to the show’s outstanding visual effects. The series, which stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen, is the most watched show in the history of the network and was just renewed for a second season along with Arrow’s renewal for its fourth season.
What do you think? Would you watch a series based on The Atom and his alter ego Ray Palmer? Tell us in the comments!
