[dropcap size=small]T[/dropcap]his may not come as a huge surprise to those of you well versed in the lore of Middle-Earth, but the final installment The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies absolutely destroyed its competition this weekend at the box office. Over the 3 day weekend The Hobbit earned just over $51 million, not quite enough to rival the treasure of Erebor, but still not a bad turnout.

Peter Jackson’s closing adventure shows no signs of slowing down either; opening night had a grand total of $16.1 million, which means the other two nights averaged a little over $1 million more than opening night. If you haven’t seen the film yet and are a fan of the other Hobbit films, this does not disappoint in the slightest.

For those of you brave enough to satisfy further cravings for Middle-Earth adventures, try giving The Silmarillion a read. It is the creation story of Valinor and Middle-Earth up to the point of Sauron becoming what he is in the prologue to The Fellowship of the Ring, after the defeat of Morgoth/Melkor. It’s akin to a Middle-Earth mythology.
