[dropcap size=small]S[/dropcap]easoned television director Michelle MacLaren has officially signed on to develop and direct Warner Bros. Wonder Woman, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
MacLaren will reportedly work with a team of yet-to-be-named writers to develop the script for the project, which will star Gal Gadot as the Amazonian princess. Wonder Woman will make her cinematic debut in the upcoming Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.
MacLaren has an impressive resume, having served as director on a slew of critically-acclaimed series including Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, and The X-Files.
Warner Bros. first showed interest in hiring MacLaren for the job in August, but then began widening its search for a director. There was never much doubt that a female director should be given the task of helming the film, especially since Wonder Woman is a universal symbol for female empowerment. In an industry so lopsidedly dominated by males, executives were tasked to find a director with the experience and capability of steering such a massive property. McLaren represents a rare instance of a female director driving a superhero film — and it’s about damn time!
