Good news, true believers! After months of speculation, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 finally has a title, and it’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The news dropped with all the grace of a web-slinger sticking the landing, as Holland himself appeared in a video clip to confirm the title and its release date: July 31, 2026. Because Marvel fans are required by law to mark their calendars years in advance.

Director Destin Daniel Cretton (you know, the guy who made Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings awesome) took the stage at CinemaCon to chat about the film, right after getting his butt handed to him by a roulette table in Las Vegas. “To say that it’s an honor to be standing on this stage is a pretty big understatement,” Cretton said, which is exactly what someone who just lost $200 would say to feel better about it.

Cretton went on to explain that he’s been a lifelong Spidey fan, drawn to Peter Parker’s “humor” and “messy humanity.” Which, if you think about it, is basically code for “watching him ruin his life in increasingly tragic ways and still somehow crack jokes.” Meanwhile, Holland’s video message included a “massive thank you for all of your support,” and a little nugget of hype: “Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a fresh start.”

Now, if you’re familiar with the comics, that title might sound familiar. Brand New Day was a 2008 storyline that followed a universe-resetting event where everyone forgot who Spider-Man was. It was also wildly controversial for ending Peter Parker’s marriage to Mary Jane—which, yeah, not exactly a highlight of Peter’s life.

But you have to admit, it’s a fitting title for where we last left off. Remember how Spider-Man: No Way Home ended? With the entire world forgetting who Peter Parker was, thanks to a certain spell gone wrong. So, it looks like the movie’s title is one big neon sign pointing at that same fresh start, like a “Welcome Back to Misery, Parker” banner.

Cretton also hinted that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be “a ride that we haven’t really seen before.” Which, considering Marvel’s usual approach to Peter Parker’s life—torture him, make him broke, kill off his loved ones, repeat—sounds both exciting and concerning.

The screenplay is coming from Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna, the writing duo behind No Way Home. These guys clearly have a PhD in “How to Make Tom Holland Cry on Camera.” And seeing how No Way Home made $1.9 billion at the global box office, you can bet Disney is tossing them blank checks and whispering, “Do it again.”

But hey, if the Brand New Day storyline from the comics is any indicator, we’re in for some insane twists and drama. After all, who doesn’t love watching Spider-Man get emotionally wrecked while making terrible life choices? So, congrats, Tom Holland—sounds like Peter Parker’s life is about to get chaotic all over again.
