Rumor: Resident Evil Code Veronica Remake in Development Under RE2 & RE4 Team

Capcom is once again trusting the same directors who handled the recent remakes to oversee CV.

Word is going around right now is that the rumored Resident Evil Code Veronica Remake is allegedly in active development and is being directed by Kazunori Kadoi and Yasuhiro Anpo, the same duo responsible for Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 4 Remake. Considering those two games managed to turn already beloved classics into something that somehow made us tense even when we knew exactly what was coming, this is about as reassuring as remake news can get.

The news comes from well-known Resident Evil insider Dusk Golem, also known on Twitter as @AestheticGamer1, who has built a reputation for leaking information about the series that tends to end up being correct far more often than fans would expect from someone whose job description is basically professional rumor starter. When Dusk Golem talks, the Resident Evil community listens, even if everyone also keeps a backup grain of salt nearby just in case.

If the report holds true, this means Capcom is once again trusting the same directors who handled the recent remakes that helped push the series back into the spotlight. Resident Evil 2 Remake showed that the formula could be modernized without losing what made the original work, and Resident Evil 4 Remake proved that even a game people thought did not need a remake could still benefit from one. Putting those same directors on Code Veronica suggests Capcom knows exactly which part of its history fans want to see brought back next.

Of course, this immediately leads to the question that always comes up whenever another remake gets announced. When are we getting a new remake of the first game again? Yes, technically Resident Evil already has a remake (more like an HD remaster), and yes, it is still good, but that has never stopped anyone from wanting to see the Spencer Mansion rebuilt with the same level of detail as the recent releases. For whatever reason that one still seems to be sitting on the shelf, which means fans may have to wait a while before Chris, Jill, and the world’s most suspicious sandwich get another turn.

For now, all eyes are on Code Veronica Remake, and until Capcom says anything official, we will be doing what everyone else is doing and keeping one tab open on Dusk Golem’s page waiting for the next update.
