Jeffrey Wright is a phenomenal actor and is a welcome choice to play James Gordon in the upcoming noir film, ‘The Batman’ by Matt Reeves.
It is rather unfortunate to see J.K. Simmons have such a short presence in the DC Cinematic Universe, but Wright taking over is not a bad thing. Though it is safe to say that 2021’s ‘The Batman’ starring Robert Pattinson (Bruce Wayne/Batman) does not take place in the same universe as Ben Affleck’s Batman, it is curious as to whether or not this will be a new franchise or a one-off like 2019’s The Joker, which is part of the larger Elseworlds (a single solo film with no connection to the rest of the DC comic universe).
Jeffrey Wright is probably most known for his roles in the 007 Daniel Craig franchise, and for appearing in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 & Part 2, with more recent notable roles in West World and a handful of other movies that are all currently in post-production.
Of course, one half of the internet hasn’t been too supportive of casting a black actor in a traditionally white role, meaning that Barbara Gordon (Batgirl) will also not be white, so naturally, you have a bunch of trolls, incel-neckbeards being vocal on that front. We won’t link to such closed-minded nonsense here, but it certainly is sad to know that skin color matters so much to some people when it comes to characters whose least interesting attribute is the color of their skin.
Anyway, The Batman is set to hit screens in 2021 with Robert Pattinson in the lead role as Batman, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle / Catwoman and Paul Dano as Edward Nashton / The Riddler. If nothing else, we have no doubts that this movie will be entertaining for sure.
