Hmmm…Who could Old Sly be playing?
I can’t believe it, but the 2017 summer movie season is rapidly approaching, and with it, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
We know the basics about this anticipated MCU sequel, such as Kurt Russell’s role as Ego the Living Planet/Star Lord’s father, but what about some of the supporting characters?
Specifically, who is Sylvester Stallone playing?
Well we still don’t know, but director James Gunn recently hinted that Rocky will be a significant figure in the film.
Via an appearance on The Adam Corolla Show, Gunn teased that Stallone and Michael Rosenbaum (who recently revealed he will be in the film) have important roles in Guardians Vol. 2.
“We do have a couple of characters who are very important to the Marvel Universe who are going to make their debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 which people don’t know about,” explained Gunn. “Sylvester Stallone plays one of these characters…my friend Michael Rosenbaum also has a pretty decent role in the movie as well and it sort of works in tandem with Sly’s character.”
Hmmm…So who could these guys be playing?
Well, a pretty significant cosmic Marvel character is Richard Rider, aka Nova. Nova is a super powered member of the intergalactic police force the Nova Corps, who appeared in the first film. Maybe Stallone as Nova will be protecting the Power Gem Infinity Stone from a pursuing Thanos?
Maybe. Gamesrader points out that Stallone as Judge Dredd looks pretty similar to a Nova Corp member, so it would be a cool references at least.
OR maybe Stallone, or Rosenbaum, will be Adam Warlock, an artificial cosmic being closely tied to the Infinity Stones in the comics. Warlock’s cocoon (yes, he was born from a cocoon) appeared among the Collector’s things in the first film, so maybe he’ll finally emerge as an elderly Rambo.
Anyway, we love Stallone and are hyped to see who he’ll be in the first big film of the summer.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters on May 5.
