Jason Voorhees has been laid to rest…for now.
[dropcap size=small]F[/dropcap]riday the 13th is one of those horror franchises that just won’t stay dead for long. After eleven films, Jason Voorhees was resurrected for the twelfth round of hacking and slashing in the reboot movie back in 2009, but he’s one villain filmmakers aren’t about to see dead and buried – most likely due to the fact that he’s a veritable box office cash cow.
Word quickly spread about a planned Paramount project which would see Jason make yet another comeback sometime this year. Breck Eisner was set to direct the film which was said to be a sort of origin story centred around the original killer, Pamela Voorhees (Jason’s mother).
But it seems Jason’s hopes of wracking up more numbers for his kill count have been dashed. According to Digital Spy, Paramount have officially dropped the project, and there is currently no word about it going ahead at a later date.
Even if we aren’t going to be seeing that menacing hockey mask on our big screens anytime soon, it’s surely not the last we’ll ever see of this famous villain. A new Friday the 13th would take the franchise to the apt number of 13 movies, so we’d happily bank on seeing it happen someday.
And hey, at least we know that if it ever does happen, nothing could worse than Jason X, right? We can live in hope anyway.
Jason X: “Jason got an upgrade.” – Yeaahhh. All the nope.
