With the success of DC TV shows recently, executive producer Greg Berlanti looks to put one of DC’s oldest heroes back on the air!
[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]n an interview with The Wrap, executive producer Greg Berlanti said that he will be the producer of the upcoming Black Lightning TV show.
Black Lightning was created by Mara Brock Akil and Salem Akil. The project is in the early stages, but Berlanti loves how things are going so far and hopes that he can land this hero with a TV network. The show is being produced by Warner Bros TV and although CW seems like a good option for Black Lightning, CW president commented on possibly adding other superhero shows:
“There are no real discussions about any more superhero characters.”
Black Lightning was one of the first black superheroes ever created when released in 1977. Black Lightning did have a series for a short period of time, but was cancelled in 1978. After that, the hero bounced around from series-to-series. Eventually, Black Lighting got an invitation to join the Justice League in a two-part series, but was turned down.
Not much is known about Black Lighting for the current audience. So if this does end up getting picked up by a network, it must catch the audience’s attention quickly and grow before it ends like the original series that came out in the 70s.
