Will this series crash without J.J. Abrams behind the wheel?
The first trailer for Star Trek Beyond, the third film of the Star Trek reboot series, has arrived.
Check it out below.
The film sees the crew of the USS Enterprise stranded on a mysterious planet, and attacked by an unknown and dangerous alien race.
This will be the first film in the reboot series not to be directed by J.J. Abrams, as he is on Star Wars duty, and instead, Fast Five helmer Justin Lin will take his place.
The main cast from the first two films returns, including Chris Pine (Captain Kirk), Zachary Quinto (Spock), Karl Urban (Bones), Simon Pegg (Scotty), John Cho (Sulu), Zoe Saldana (Uhura), Anton Yeltsin (Chekov), and Idris Elba in a unknown villainous role.
While this trailer has a noticeably lighter tone than the previous film in the series, Into Darkness, it remains to be seen if this film can balance action with the adventurous spirit of classic Star Trek.
Star Trek Beyond flies into theaters on July 22, 2016.
