Will Jane Foster be in Thor’s third solo movie after all?
It’s been a little over a month since we were treated to the amazing first teaser trailer for Thor: Ragnarok (it’s below if you want to watch it for the 43rd time).
Noticeable absent from the trailer though is Natalie Portman’s character Jane Foster, Thor’s love interest in the two preceding films starring the god of thunder.
This wasn’t a surprise to fans who have followed the production of Ragnarok, as it’s be known for a while that Portman’s character won’t be the film. Probably the most definitive answer as to why this is so came from MCU head honcho Kevin Feige in an interview last year, where he stated that there many reasons why Foster won’t be in the movie, including the fact that a majority of the movie takes place in the cosmos, and not on Earth. Plus, it’s possible ol’ Thor has a new love interest in Asgardian warrior Valkyrie, played by Tessa Thompson, who appears in the trailer.
Regardless, it seems as though Jane Foster may actually be involved in Ragnarok in some way or another, per teasing from the film’s director Taika Waititi.
Last week, Waititi tweeted out this image comparing Natalie Portman’s characters from Leon: The Professional and Where The Heart Is, followed by the caption “Heed the signs,” and #Ragnarok.

Hmmm. Well the obvious takeaway from this tweet is that Portman will be involved with Ragnarok in some way. But why tease this by comparing two of her early roles where she’s holding a plant? Is she dumping Thor for Groot?
It’s pretty clear that Portman won’t have a significant role in Ragnarok, even if she does actually appear, so if anything, we’re hoping closure is brought to her relationship with Thor before he goes off and has a fun space adventure with Hulk.
(Plus they had zero chemistry and it looked like Natalie hated every minute of Thor: The Dark World.)
Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3.
