Activision has really developed a rep for letting fans down
[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]n yet another example of their monumental greed, Activision will force fans to purchase Call of Duty: Infinite Legacy Edition in order to play Modern Warfare Remastered. The Legacy edition will run for $79.99 an extra $20 than a standalone copy of Infinite Warfare.
Forbes asked Rob Kostich, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Call of Duty, if the company was worried about people ditching Infinite Warfare for Modern Warfare. To which he responded:
“If you think about it, basically they scratch two different itches…You’re gonna scratch the kind of more nostalgia Modern Warfare itch with the remaster, but all the kinda cool new stuff in Infinite Warfare is really exciting too. Obviously the Infinite Warfare experience is big with all the new bells and whistles, but it’ll be fun to go back to Modern Warfare multiplayer as well.”
Now some gamers might be okay with purchasing the Legacy edition, some might just see the remaster as a nice ($20) bonus and are really looking forward to the next installment. However, Activision could just as easily have put the remaster for sale on digital markets and that would be the end of it. The double release looks like it really is just a marketing ploy to sell more copies and make money off nostalgia.
Though Call of Duty no longer seems to be breaking records with every installment, the franchise is still enjoyed by millions of fans new and old. Maybe Infinite Warfare will be the series’ glorious comeback? We won’t know for sure till its release this November 4th!
