The DC supervillain will return for Dawn of Justice as… another DC supervillain?

[toggler title=”TL;DR” ]General Zod will have flippers for hands in Batman v Superman, prompting speculation that they are the result of Lex Luthor’s attempts to morph him into Doomsday.[/toggler]

[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]f you’ve seen the Batman v Superman trailer, you will have seen General Zod make a brief appearance as a dead guy, but Michael Shannon, who played the Kryptonian General in 2013’s Man of Steel, has teased that he might have more of a role in Dawn of Justice. In an interview with Vulture, Shannon revealed a bizarre detail about Zod’s return.

‘I couldn’t use my fingers, because in the sequel I have flippers instead of hands. So I had these wax flippers on my fingers, and I couldn’t open the door, and I could hear Zack [Snyder, director] being like, ‘Where’s Shannon? Where is he?’, and the whole crew was standing around. I was like, knocking on the door with my flippers, ‘Let me out of here!”

As for the flippers, your guess is as good as ours, but they might have something to do with this theory; Comicbook.com has suggested that Lex Luthor will get hold of Zod’s body and conduct experiments on it, probably because he thinks it will help in finding Superman’s weakness. They go on to say that said experiments will ‘trigger the Doomsday genome’, and force the body to mutate into Doomsday, the DC supervillain, and the one who killed Superman.

Doomsday was always going to be introduced into this universe at some point. Superman needs testing beyond Lex Luthor, and Doomsday is the only one who can match him physically. Now it seems we might be getting him a whole lot sooner than we thought. And he might have flippers. We really don’t know where the flippers come into this.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is due out March 25th, 2016.
