The order of the top 5 may surprise you! Check it out here!

[dropcap size=small]S[/dropcap]ince we have known about Pokemon, Pikachu has been the face of the franchise. So it would make sense if Pikachu were on top of most people’s favorite Pokemon. But Japan, where Pokemon originated, does not have them atop their list. To promote the next Pokemon movie, Japan had an election to make a top-100 Pokemon list.

500,000 Japanese fans voted and the number one Pokemon voted was Greninja, a ninja-like frog out of the 721 possible choices. Greninja had 15% of the voting to win the top spot and will be available for download on Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire for those who attend the new movie. Whether this offer will be extended outside Japan has yet to be confirmed.

The top-5 Pokemon on the list are Greninja, followed by legendary Pokemon Arceus and Mew. Pikachu makes the number four spot, with Sylveon rounding out the top five. I find it disappointing that neither Squirtle or Charmander even sniff the top 100, yet Bulbasaur makes it at number 89. You can see the full list down below or on the official website.

It would be really cool to have something like this happen in America to see what our top 100 would be and compare the two lists. Of course, controversy will always be involved in a list like this. But, I’m sure we will deal with each other and who we think is the best anyway. We’ve been doing that since Pokemon was created back in 1996. So I doubt we will have a unanimous decision on who the best is.

How would your list look and who do you think is the best Pokemon? Let us know in the comments below!
