Filming on the Borderlands Movie to Begin in Budapest Soon

We have very little faith in this one.

Reports are coming in that Eli Roth’s Borderlands will begin filming fairly soon this year. While most of the filming industry has been struggling to keep productions up and running, filming locations like Budapest in Hungary and other locations in New Zealand have gone on unscathed.

Adam Goodman, head of MidAtlantic Films, sat down with The Hollywood Reporter and touched on Borderlands saying:

“We’ve opened up space for a Lionsgate film, Borderlands [starring Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart], we’re doing season three of Jack Ryan for Paramount TV, and we’re doing a Marvel project, which, for the usual security reasons, I can’t talk about.

We’re basically fully booked for the coming cycle, until the summer, which, hopefully, will be the last cycle of shows we have to do under COVID-19 protocols.”

Stand-up comedian Kevin Hart’s involvement in the film broke several months ago but which character he will be playing exactly has yet to be confirmed publicly. Rumors have been circulating around the internet for some time with many saying he’ll land the role of Roland. Kevin Hart will star opposite Cate Blanchett who landed the role of Lilith, a popular character among Borderlands fans.

Director Eli Roth had this to say when the film was officially announced:

“I’m so excited to dive into the world of Borderlands and I could not be doing it with a better script, producing team, and studio. I have a long, successful history with Lionsgate — I feel like we have grown up together and that everything in my directing career has led to a project of this scale and ambition. I look forward to bringing my own energy, ideas, and vision to the wild, fun, and endlessly creative world of the game. Randy Pitchford and everyone at Gearbox has been incredibly supportive of my ideas — it really feels like a perfect storm of creators coming together. We are out to make a new classic, one which the fans of the game will love, but also one which will find new audiences globally.”

History has not been kind to live-action adaptions of video games. While comic book superhero films have blossomed, films based on video games have never quite found a foothold within the entertainment community. Here’s to hoping Borderlands is different.

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.
