[dropcap size=small]B[/dropcap]lizzard enthralled fans yesterday with the rumor-confirming announcement of a new PC shooter franchise, Overwatch. The game is described as, ‘a highly stylized team based shooter, set on Earth in the near future.’

At Blizzcon, Jeff Kaplan, a former World of Warcraft game director, told fans a little about the game. Kaplan described it as an action-packed multiplayer shooter. And from the awesome gameplay trailer below released with the announcement, players have much to be excited about. Overwatch seems to look more like Team Fortress 2 or Borderlands than previous Blizzard games, while retaining its own unique attributes.

As for the plot of Overwatch, Blizzard released this:

In a time of global crisis, an international task force of soldiers, scientists, adventurers, and oddities known as Overwatch had come together to restore peace to a war-torn world. After many years, the group’s influence waned, and it was eventually disbanded. Overwatch might be gone now…but the world still needs heroes.

Those who are in attendance at Blizzcon will be able to play the game on site, but the rest of you will be glad to know the Beta will be available starting in 2015, you can go the the Overwatch Website and register for your beta key right now as well as get more information on the huge announcement from Blizzard.
