Deadpool Film Looks to Round Out Cast

[dropcap size=small]R[/dropcap]yan Reynolds was unofficially attached to star in a Deadpool film ever since playing a misguided version of the antihero in X-Men Origins: Wolverine; and last month, the actor officially signed on to play the Merc with a Mouth. Now, according to a report by TheWrap, sources close to the project have revealed that 20th Century Fox is looking to add comedian T.J. Miller and actor/musician Ed Skrein to the cast.

Skrein is still making a name for himself in Hollywood, and after a brief stint on Game of Thrones in the show’s third season (as Daario 1.0), he will star in The Transporter Legacy due out later this year. Legacy will be a reboot of the franchise with Skrein playing Frank Martin, the role originated by Jason Statham in the first three films. It is rumored that Skrein will be the villain in Deadpool, but it is currently unknown which one of Deadpool’s foes he will portray.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine still haunts us even six years later.

T.J. Miller has gained significant notoriety recently after starring in last year’s Transformers: Age of Extinction as well as the HBO comedy series Silicon Valley co-created by Mike Judge. He also lent his voice talents to Disney’s Big Hero 6 (as Fred), based on the Marvel comic of the same name, and reprised his role of Tuffnut Thorson in How To Train Your Dragon 2. Miller’s role in Deadpool is unknown, but his inclusion in the cast would contribute significantly to the comedic factor of the film, which is something that is extremely prevalent in Deadpool’s comic appearances.

Reynolds and director Tim Miller had worked on CGI test footage in 2012 to help pitch the film, and when that clip was released in September of last year, Deadpool fans raved so much that the overwhelming response on the Internet helped get the film green-lit. Social media can work magic, people. If you haven’t seen the footage (or want to watch it again for the thousandth time like me), check it out below. It really doesn’t get old.
