This is definitely a cause for celebration.

[dropcap size=small]B[/dropcap]ack in 2013 the Godfather of Japanese animation announced that he was going to retire and fans of his work all over the world were quite saddened by the news. Then, during last year’s nationally televised special The Man Who Is Not Done: Hayao Miyazaki the beloved anime director hinted that he might step out of retirement to make a new film.

Hayao Miyazaki stated that he had been secretly working on Boro the Caterpillar because he wasn’t satisfied with the short story. In keeping up with this statement last Friday Studio Ghibli’s production department officially reopened but what are they working on?

Whether or not the production department at Studio Ghibli is working on Boro the Caterpillar remains to be seen. After all, the Godfather of Japanesanimationon has presented a proposal to turn the short story into a full-length film. With work beginning on storyboards and with a goal to release the film sometime in 2019 who knows, maybe the legend is working on something else entirely.
